The queen of Sicilian pastry making.

Cassata siciliana is a traditional sweet from Sicily, Italy.

Our antica Cassata is made in a traditional ancient way, it consists of round sponge cake (GLUTEN FREE) moistened with liqueur maraschino and layered with ricotta cheese made with sheep milk, vanilla and dark choccolate drops, a filling also used with sicilian cannoli. 

Our home made Cassata has a shell of marzipan, made with 100% Almonds and Pistachoes.

Decoration: candid cherry and crushed home made tosted pistachoes.

 

Cassata is believed to have originated in Palermo in the 10th century, when under Muslim rule.

The word al-qaššāṭī (القشاطي, Arabic for ''the cassata-maker'') was first mentioned in Corleone in 1178.

The Arabic word qas'ah, from which cassata may derive, refers to the bowl that is used to shape the cake. 

Cassata is the subject of an invented tradition based on the claim that its roots lie in the Muslim Middle Ages.
